South Park

I admit, i love this show. It's brilliantly written satire has grabbed my attention ever since season 8. Since then i've been going back and catching up on the back shows. The early seasons seem to be more shock than satire and so i don't find them as funny.

Anyways, i found this create-a-South-Park-character online you should check out. You can spend way too much time with it: http://www.sp-studio.de/

Hi! I'm here.

It's been awhile since i last posted, so i wanted to just say "Hi!" I also just changed servers to HostGator and when doing so, setup my domain: perryazevedo.com to point here for the time being; or until i can put energy and effort into making a new website. With all the free Blogger.com, Myspace.com, Facebook.com, etc. out on the web, i see less and less need to host my own site (if it weren't for the fact that i like having my own email server). :-)

"The Almighty Dollar"

The Bible warns against its evils, Washington Irving1 observed its influence on early America, we live in chosen blind ignorance to its over-abundantly obvious totalitarian reign.

Americans are swept up in the love of money. Christians are not exempt. We've bought into this idol worship along with the rest of the country. Politics, war, education, global warming, organic, green, etc. Everything is motivated by the almighty dollar. Obviously, i realize i'm speaking in broad, sweeping generalizations. But i'm certain that upon an inventory of one's own heart, each of us will find greed's traces in even the simplest decisions.

Crabifornia

Hannah and i just got back from a short vacation in California where we met my immediate family for a reunion/Uncle's 60th birthday party. In addition to the family activities, Hannah and i celebrated our 3 years of dating/courting by spending a day in Sacramento before heading up to Paradise to join the family.

Even though Sacramento isn't the "coolest" of cities, it was fun to take a tour of "Old Sacramento" and get a bit of the down and dirty history of the city. It's laughable how similar it is to Seattle's history. Both were towns that boomed because of gold rushes and were founded and built by dishonest men trying to make a buck, no matter how unethical the means. What a great heritage!!

We concluded our Sacramento celebration with a feast on some amazing King Crab at Joe's Crab Shack. So good!

Scripture and Laptops

Once again, i am completely convicted about just how little of myself i give to my Savior. Don't take this the wrong way. I am involved in ministry at my church 15-20 hours a week, tithe, participate in a wonderful home group, etc. All of those things are great! Like Paul said: "What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works?" But there comes a point where you get so busy with the "dos" of ministry and life, that you completely drain yourself and think, "God, i just don't have any energy left to give you with devotion or time in your word."

Which, really is sort of backwards. Because when you "give yourself" to God in this way, he in turn pours back into you so much more. It's like laptops. I have a nice, but older 12" Apple Powerbook G4. I use the thing constantly for work at the church, fun, email, internet, music, recording, etc. It gets a good 3 or 4 hours of battery life and is constantly on. The only problem is that--if i don't plug it in to a power outlet, it dies because it has no power left to give. I think that's a good picture of us as humans. We need to plug into "the source of (our) life in Christ Jesus" (1 Cor. 1:30), God Almighty.

Car trouble again!!!

For some reason, it seems that car trouble follows me. I can't get away from it. This last week, my radiator started spewing green fluid and i discovered a crack in the top of the radiator itself. Fun stuff. It should be an easy fix. Just sucks now that i have to buy a new radiator.
